Anna University has launched a Training Development Communication Channel (TDCC) jointly with the Development and Educational Communication unit, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) from 6th of Sep 04 and is telecasting live interactive lectures on engineering subjects by renowned experts in the field. The lectures are telecast from the studio of Educational Multimedia Research center (EMRC) (formerly AVRC), Anna University. This is being received by 25 affiliated engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu through a dedicated 'receive facility'. The students at various affiliated colleges watching the program through Television can interact with the expert and clarify their doubts via telephone.
TDCC works on one-way video and two-way audio facility. TDCC provides an opportunity for the students to interact with subject experts and gain in subject knowledge. The lectures prepared by experts are made more effective and interesting using animation techniques. Also lecture content will be complied and given to all the teachers at the end of the programme in the form of CDs. The EMRC studio has a 3.8m dish antenna for uplink of video programmes and is telecast through INSAT 3B satellite on the extended 'C' band. The Director, Center of Faculty Development, Anna University organizes the lectures. The programme schedule is prepared well in advance and sent to all 25 affiliated colleges. Feedback and valuable suggestion from students and staff obtained by coordinator in each college are sent back to the Center for Faculty Development, for suitable modifications in the subsequent programmes. This facility can be utilized by all the colleges with the receive facility.
The timing of the live programme is between 1.45pm to 4.15pm. Students can contact between 1.45 to 4.15pm to clarify their doubts in the respective subject. Experts are drawn from Anna University as well as from other colleges. This Training Development Communication Channel (TDCC) is highly useful for both - Engineering students and the staff.
