ANNA FM has always been a pioneer in serving the community. Though it serves the community as a whole, ANNA FM provides effective service, especially for women, through its series of Women Empowerment programmes broadcast every Tuesday from 7.30 pm to 8 pm.
Women Empowerment programmes, aim at developing the lives of hundreds of aspiring women in the community. The main target being the self-help groups in and around Chennai. The programme offers extra tips on business development, builds the confidence in them to bring out the entrepreneur in them. It also concentrates on health with special reference to women’s health. There are other important topics like social changes among women and the necessity for a woman to work, where experts come and share their views on the respective topics.
We have had eminent and imminent people from the society coming and sharing their thoughts and boosting up the confidence in the minds of the listeners. We have had Ms. Anuradha Ramanan, a novelist and social worker, talk about the social changes in the life of a woman, quoting examples from her very own life. The Women Empowerment programmes on ANNA FM have had journalists working for the noble cause of women empowerment. To quote, Ms. Malathy Rangarajan, a journalist, who shared her thoughts about ‘Empowering women through journalism’ with special mention of her stories on the ‘widows in Brindavan’ and Ms. Kousalya Santhanam, sharing her experience about interaction with self-help groups all over Tamil Nadu, spoke about the simple ways of recognizing woman as an independent individual. Coming to health, we have had medical experts like Dr. Khwaja, gynaecologist interacting with her patients at the community health centre. Dr. Usha Rani, spoke about HIV / AIDS.
